V8 Sii Research Platform
Ocean Modules has designed a ROV research platform for the Alfred Wegener Institute, which coordinates German polar research and makes available science infrastructure such as the research ice breaker Polarstern and research stations in the Arctic and Antarctic.
Using the unique ability of the V8 Sii ROV to provide perfect stability at any chosen attitude it is possible to mount many different types of sensors at various angles and use them for different types of research without ever reconfiguring the vehicle.
At delivery the ROV includes dual high-definition zoom cameras, a wide-angle camera, a manipulator, five LED lights, an altimiter, an obstacle avoidance sonar, USBL positioning, an acoustic Doppler current profiler and sensors for temperature, salinity, light, pH, O2, chlorophyll and flouride. It also has plug-and-play power and data capabilities for Ethernet devices (such as a BlueView sonar) and additional RS485 devices.
The skid can be disconnected for an even lighter, faster and nimbler vehicle.
Tobias, Claudio and Laura spent three days in Sweden for training, joined by CEO Claes Drougge for the final acceptance test.
