Ocean Modules V8 Sii ROV

The revolutionary V8 Sii (Search, Identification and Intervention) is a remotely-operated vehicle based on eight vectored thrusters and an extremely advanced control system, allowing it complete 360° freedom of movement in three dimensions. Any desired angle and position can be held indefinitely, at any depth, as required.

Footage of the V8 Sii captured during a training course for new pilots with no previous ROV experience.

Ocean Modules provides an extensive range of fixed cameras, PTRZ dome cameras, halogen lights, LED lights, sonars, manipulators and sensors making the V8 Sii the perfect tool for jobs ranging from measuring the thickness of the Antarctic ice to disposing of mines on ship hulls to inspecting the deep base of oil platforms in the North Sea.

Pilot Control Unit (PCU)

The PCU provides all the controls an operator needs to handle the V8 Sii in one simple handheld unit. These include speed, direction, depth, pitch, roll, trim, light intensity, camera pan and tilt and autopilot. Anyone who has ever played a first-persion video game or driven a remote-controlled car will instantly understand the intuitive interface.

Depth: 180mm
Width: 240mm
Height: 130mm

Surface Unit (SU)

The SU provides the power required to operate the V8 Sii ROV. For added safety it includes constant insulation monitoring with a warning LED as well as automatic cut-out. It also has an interface for all the inputs and outputs, such as telemetry, video, sonar, Ethernet, USB and RS-232.

Input: Single-phase AC, 170-265V, 47-63Hz - 5kW max
Output: 630 VDC
Depth: 600mm
Width: 600mm
Height: 250mm

Tether

Ocean Modules provides a variety of cables for use with the V8 Sii ROV. The standard cable is a 12mm neutral buoyancy cable housing power conductors and three twisted pairs for control, video, sonar and other sensors. It is available for lengths of up to 600m and can withstand strain of up to 500kg.

For longer tethers or higher bandwidth requirements a fiber optic option is also available.

Service and Maintenance

The superior reliability and extreme modularity of the V8 Sii ROV allows Ocean Modules to present a new type of maintenance contract. For a low yearly fee an operator enjoys an unprecedented level of service.

If a fault occurs, the operator simply replaces the two electronic pods, the two power pods and any faulty thrusters with a set of spares. No fault finding is required. The replaced pods are shipped back to Ocean Modules for service and testing. A fresh set of spares will be dispatched to the customer immediately. Using this method downtime can be limited to 10 minutes in most cases.

Ocean Modules V8 HD ROV

The Ocean Modules V8 Sii HD ROV sports the same features and control system as the standard V8 Sii, with the addition of up to four simultaneous high-definition video channels as well as a fiber optic umbilical cable which may be up to 2700 meters in length.

Footage provided by DeepOcean of the V8 HD performing an inspection of the concrete gravity base structures incorporating storage cells of production platform Statfjord A in the North Sea.
